St Clare’s Oxford

St Clare’s is a coeducational, independent international day and boarding college in the North of Oxford, with a diverse global student community. The college places strong value on student voice, wellbeing and cultural inclusion, recognising food as central to boarding and pastoral care.

Challenge

St Clare’s wanted a catering partner who shared its ethos of listening to students and responding to a wide range of cultural needs. There were also concerns about the efficiency of stock ordering and management prior to Thomas Franks, alongside a desire to move away from a generic catering approach.

Solution

Thomas Franks was personally recommended to the Bursar, Justin Moore, and immediately impressed with the quality of food, dining layout and operational management. Drawing on strong restaurant experience, Thomas Franks introduced efficient stock control practices and provided mentorship to the on-site team, supporting a more innovative and consistent service.

Results

The dining experience at St Clare’s has improved significantly, with students noting greater variety and creativity in the food offer. The college now works collaboratively with Thomas Franks, recognising catering as a key part of boarding life and pastoral provision, helping students feel cared for and supported.
